Three children who's parents are currently under ICE custody and are under the babysitter's care. These children are in need, ages are 10 y.o. boy, 9 y.o. boy, and 10 month old girl. The monetary donations will help pay for food, clothes, diapers, wipes, pantry items, formula, medicines, transportation, children activities, utilities, etc. We are currently collecting monetary donations through the Centro Latino of Iowa. If only 200 people were so kind and donated $20 we could raise $4,000! Monetary donations will go directly to the children being affected. The mother has no criminal history and fled horrific violence in Guatemala. Unfortunately, when she presented herself at the U.S. border she could not even speak Spanish - she speaks Mam, a Guatemalan dialect - so could not articulate her fear of returning and was ordered deported by border patrol. She dutifully reported to ICE every month for the past 2 years but last month ICE decided to detain her and send her to a jail 3 hours away from her home and family. We were fortunately able to get her an interview with an asylum officer who agreed that she has a reasonable fear of returning to Guatemala based on what she and her family went through. We are now awaiting her first hearing before the immigration judge and will be pursuing asylum-related relief. However, with a deportation order she is not eligible for bond under our immigration laws and is at the mercy of ICE to release her which we have pled with them to do so far to no avail. Blackford Law is working on trying to get the father released on bond but will not have a bond hearing to determine that for another 3-4 weeks. At least until then, these traumatized children are parentless. If you need additional information please call Blackford Law LLC 402-933-4090 |
